Charlotte Sanderson Obituary

BARRE -- Charlotte E. (Green) Sanderson, 88, died on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Quabbin Valley Health Center in Athol, MA after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas G. Sanderson, in 1960. She was also predeceased by her sister Olive Mathews, sister Marion Sweeney, and brother Raymond Green, all of Ware, MA. Her long-time and devoted companion, Wilbert Lincoln of Barre, died in January 2018.

Charlotte (Chuck) leaves behind her three sons Douglas and his wife Maureen, Bruce, and David and his wife Deborah.  She leaves behind five grandchildren including Sherry Forsyth, Caitlin Pepi (her ‘huggy girl’), Thomas Sanderson, several nieces and nephews, and great grandchildren.

She was born in North Brookfield, later moving to Barre then Oakham until her sons were grown. She returned to Barre for more than 40 years.

Charlotte had fond memories of growing up in Ware. She often told stories of the places, characters, and events that shaped those years. When she was sixteen she went to work at Grant’s Department Store and remembered being able, for the first time, to buy her own lunch. She often told her sons about meeting and being love-smitten by their father.

The sons all have fond memories of Charlotte’s beautiful singing as she went about her daily work. Her grandchildren happily recall sitting at the picnic table in the backyard as she told stories and shared many a summer’s day. Most memorable are probably the walks through the woods behind the house along her ‘Yellow Brick Road’ with her cats and dogs as part of the entourage.  She was an avid Red Sox fan, especially Big Papi.  She was an excellent letter writer closing with her especial signature. As an avid reader, she was into nutrition, yoga, and homeopathic remedies long before they were mainstream.

Services for Charlotte will be held privately.  Burial will be in the Quabbin Park Cemetery in Belchertown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 136, East Brookfield, MA 01515 on her behalf.  Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., in Ware is assisting her family with arrangements.
