Brookfield - Floyd R. Richardson, 91, of Brookfield died on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Quaboag Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center in West Brookfield.
He leaves his loving wife of 32 years, Cheryl M. (Smith) Richardson. He was born in North Adams, son of Floyd I. and Maude (Superneau) Richardson, and lived in Brookfield for over 40 years.
Floyd began his long career with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1951 as a Conservation Helper. He held various environmental positions throughout his career, the last being Chief of Wildlife Lands, until retiring in 1987. During his tenure, he directed the acquisition of more than 30,000 acres, including considerable land in the Berkshires. He received the prestigious Carballo Award, in recognition of his performance with the Commonwealth.
Mr. Richardson was a United States Marine Corps veteran, having served oversees during WWII.
He enjoyed being outdoors, and was an avid golfer, having been a member of Cohasse Country Club in Southbridge, and more recently as a member of Bay Path Golf Course in East Brookfield. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as well. He could often be seen with either a golf club or a fishing pole in his hands.
He attended the East Brookfield Baptist Church.
A Funeral Service with military honors will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 11:00AM in the East Brookfield Baptist Church, 262 East Main St., East Brookfield. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11AM in the church prior to the service.
