Geraldine D. (Smith) Burnham

West Brookfield - Geraldine D. Burnham, 88, of Birch Hill Rd., died on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center.

She leaves two sons, Ronald Burnham and his wife Linda of Brookfield and Leonard Burnham and his wife Debra of Warren; a daughter, Karen Farrell and her husband Mark of Brookfield; a sister, Beverly Cassavant of West Brookfield; three grandchildren, Ben Farrell and his wife Becca of Oakland, CA, Amanda Brodeur and her husband Micheal of Queen City, AZ and Erin Brown of West Brookfield and several nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, George E. Burnham, Jr. in 2008.  She was born in Meriden, CT, daughter of the late Earl A. and Ruth E. (Schwartz) Smith and was a lifelong resident of West Brookfield.

Mrs. Burnham owned and operated Burnham’s General Store in West Brookfield with her husband and also worked as a nurses aide at the Quaboag Nursing Home and privately before retiring in 1991.

Geraldine was a member of the George Whitefield United Methodist Church and its choir for many years.  She also was a member of the Quaboag Chimers, the hand chimes group at the Quaboag Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center in West Brookfield.

Her family would like to thank everyone on Unit 2 at the Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center for all the love and care that they gave to their mother over the years.

A Funeral Service for Geraldine will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the George Whitefield United Methodist Church in West Brookfield.  There are no calling hours.  Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the George Whitefield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 576. West Brookfield, MA 01585.  Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield is assisting her family with arrangements.
