Hardwick - Henry F. Gainley, 80, of Simpson Road died at home on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, entering his heavenly rest.

He leaves his wife of 27 years, Susan R. (Maddocks) Gainley; three sons, Henry F. Gainley and his wife Virginia of Hermit, CA, Glenn S. Gainley and his wife Bonny of Fort Collins, CO, and Todd M. Gainley and his wife Caranne of Las Vegas, NV; a step-son, Thomas H. Mountain of Franklinton, NC, a step-daughter, Rebecca K. Mountain of Orange, 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  Born in Worcester, Henry was the son of the late Henry F. and Dorothy (Parker) Gainley, Sr.

Mr. Gainley was a 21 year veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War.  He was very proud of his long Naval service to our country.

After retiring from the service, Henry became self-employed, working as a wood craftsman and a handyman. He belonged to the North Brookfield Congregational Church, was the Veterans’ Service Officer for the town of Hardwick and was instrumental in the concept and construction of the Veterans’ Memorial Park in Hardwick. The fruitfulness of his life may be measured not by the committtees he was on or the clubs he joined but by the many friends, young and old, he acquired because of his loving, kind, and generous heart and because of his deep, genuine faith in Christ his Savior.

A Memorial Service for Henry will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, January 5, 2018 in the North Brookfield Congregational Church.  There are no calling hours, and everyone is asked to meet at the church.  Burial with full military honors will be at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., in Winchendon following the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the North Brookfield Congregational Church, 144 North Main St., North Brookfield, MA 01535 or the Hardwick Veterans’ Memorial Park, P.O. Box 575, Gilbertville, MA 01031.

Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant Street in Ware is assisting his family with arrangements.
