John T. O’Leary, Jr.,

Brookfield – John T. O’Leary, Jr. of West Main Street, died on Monday, December 26, 2016, at UMass Memorial Hospital – University Campus, after a period of declining health.

He leaves his loving wife of 45 years, Lois A. (Oliver) O’Leary; two sons, Patrick O. O’Leary of Brookfield, and Brian J. O’Leary and his wife Melanie of Warren; a brother, Daniel A. O’Leary and his wife Susan of Rutland; four grandchildren, Kiana, Ali, Lana O’Leary, and Devonta Parker.  John was born in Worcester, son of the late John T. and Adela M. (Urbanovitch) O’Leary.  He and Lois have resided in Brookfield for 43 years.

John worked for the Worcester DPW, for over 40 years, retiring in 2001.  He was a fixture in the town of Brookfield, and could often be seen with a friendly wave.  He was an avid outdoorsman, and was well known in the local community of sportsmen.  He was a member of the Leicester Rod & Gun Club, and the Worcester County League of Sportsmen.  He loved fishing, hunting, shooting, and working his bird dogs.  John enjoyed writing, and was a frequent author of hunting and fishing articles in local papers and the Brookfield Citizen Newsletter.  He was also a member of St. Mary’s Church in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish.

A Funeral Mass for John will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at 11:00AM at St. Mary’s Church in Brookfield.  Burial will be in Brookfield Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016, from 5 to 7 PM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main Street, West Brookfield.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brookfield Rescue Squad, 4 Central St., Brookfield, MA 01506 or the Friends of the Library, P.O.
