Ware - Walter H. Coulombe, 87, of Ware passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 1, 2018.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Mary P. (Sullivan) Coulombe; two sons, Michael P. Coulombe and his wife Christine of Rutland, and Thomas W. Coulombe and his wife Kathleen of Ware; one daughter, Cynthia A. Gervais and her husband Chip of Ware; two brothers, Herman and Arthur Coulombe; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth Dembkowski. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Herman J. and Elizabeth J. (Kahlmann) Coulombe, and was a life-long resident of Ware.
Mr. Coulombe is a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War and flew overseas with the Navy in the Berlin Airlift.
Walter worked as an Armorer with the National Guard for 20 years. He retired in 1995. He was a very talented craftsman and had his own crafts and small furniture business after he retired. He mastered any craft he studied, including carpeting and tile work, reapholstering furniture, painting and wood crafts. He also drove tractor trailer for some years.
Walter loved his family and was very proud of their accomplishments. He always maintained an independence of doing things his way. While he definitely spoke his mind; he had a good sense of humor. He loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer, playing at local golf courses nearly every day with his son, Tom, right up until last year.
A Funeral Service for Walter will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at 11:30AM in the Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., in Ware. Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11:30AM prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be Aspen Grove Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ware Fire Department, 200 West St., Ware, MA 01082.
