Marilyn Niquette Obituary

Ware - Marilyn E. (Warren) Niquette, of Ware, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

Marilyn was born in Holyoke and grew up in Amherst, daughter of the late Arthur and Madalyn (Howes) Warren. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Donald M. Niquette in 2022.

She leaves her son, James Niquette and his wife Christine; her daughter, Nicole Rohan and her husband Jonathan; her grandchildren, Joseph, Steven, Jessica, Kimberly, Elizabeth, Derek, Katie and Gavin; her great-grandchildren, Evahn, Kennedy, and Quinn, as well as her sisters, Patricia Begos and Rita Laughnane, and her brothers, Arthur, Mike and James Warren. She was predeceased by her daughter Patricia Niquette in 2013, as well as her siblings Jean Kirejczyk, Joanne Cole, Stephen Warren, Kathleen Ursia and Roy Warren.

Marilyn started her career as a Radiology Technician at Mary Lane Hospital in 1962. At the age of 50, she obtained her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and was promoted to Director of Administrative Services, overseeing several outpatient departments and retired from Mary Lane Hospital after 37 years. Friends and former co-workers have since shared their appreciation for her years of service and noted or expressed that her passing is the end of an era for many who passed through the doors of Mary Lane when it was still that small, hometown caring hospital. She left a lasting impression on patients and co-workers and was looked upon as a mentor for many who were just starting their careers in healthcare.

Marilyn loved spending time with her family and instilled her unwaivering strength and resilience in all of them. She lived her life as active as possible spending several winters in Lake Worth, Florida, swimming a few times a week with friends in Belchertown, attending many reunions with classmates from her Amherst Regional High School Class of 1957 and having coffee and playing cards with her best friend Beverly. She was passionate about caring for her disabled granddaughter Kimberly and ensured that Kim lived her best life every day.

Marilyn’s family wishes to thank the staff at Cedarbrook Village in Ware and Overlook Hospice for their loving care given to her over the past year. The family is also very grateful to Dr. Kate Atkinson for over 20 years of care and friendship with Marilyn, remaining a phone call away and providing incredible support for her family during the past year.
