Beatrice E. (Sarty) Frew

Warren/Brookfield -  Beatrice E. (Sarty) Frew, departed on Her New Journey – April 24th, 2017.

Daughter of Charles F. and Lilian G. (Williams) Sarty, Betty was born on her beloved family farm in Warren on October 17th, 1928.  She began her working career as a part-time phone operator for the town of Warren, followed by a job working for her uncle in his dry goods store, also in Warren.

Betty then raised her three children on her own, and then at the age of 40, she began her career of 48 years, working as an Interpreter and Trainer at Old Sturbridge Village; a time in her life that she held dearly and where she made many close life-long friends.  Also, during these years, she began some traveling with friends to locations such as The Canyon Lands out West, The Panama Canal, and then in her 70’s, a number of bareboat sailboat trips with family to the BVI in the Caribbean.

She leaves her son, Gregory C. Frew and Laurie Denis, daughter, E. Sharon Copestakes and Scott Ferris, daughter, Judith L. F. Martin and Gregory Martin, and her granddaughter, Devon Frew and fiancé Nathan Jones.  Other close family members that she leaves are the children and grandchildren of her beloved New York cousins (Hal and “G” Williams), and members of her Nova Scotia, Canada family.  She was predeceased by her son-in-law David A. Copestakes.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Betty’s caregiver and friend, Ann Coven, for the last year and a half of excellent attentiveness, love, and laughter she gave to their Mom. The family also wishes to thank the staff of Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in West Brookfield, for their care and support given to Betty and her family.  And also, thank you to the Town of Brookfield Ambulance.

A Funeral Service for Beatrice will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 3:00PM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc.,43 East Main St., West Brookfield.  Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 1 to 3PM in the funeral home. 

Burial will be held privately in Pine Grove Cemetery in Warren.
