West Warren - Delbert L. “Del” Russell, age 79, of West Warren, formerly of Springfield, and Fulton, NY, died peacefully on Saturday evening, February 24, 2018 at his home with his loving and devoted family by him. He was the son of the late George M. and Naomi (Geer) Russell.
Del was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School and pursued higher education at the University of Massachusetts. He served in the United States Army in Korea. Del was employed as a machinist at Techni-Products, Inc. in East Longmeadow for 35 years before retiring in 2000.
Del was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family beyond all else. He had a quick wit, and great sense of humor. He loved his wife’s cooking along with a good bowl of popcorn. He was active in the Warren Baseball Association, was President of the Quaboag Booster Club, and was very involved in his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He enjoyed the outdoors and recreation, cutting wood and vacationing with his family on Cape Cod.
He leaves the love of his life, his wife of 55 years, Beverly (Berthiaume) Russell along with his 3 children, Suzanne Ramsey and her husband Bill of Warren, Scott Russell and his wife Hazel of Arlington, VA, and Mary Heathman and her husband Colonel Scot Heathman of Spokane, WA. He also leaves 5 adoring and well-teased grandchildren: 2nd Lt. Sean Ramsey and his wife Jennifer, Kaitlyn Ramsey, Austin Russell, Sydney Russell, and Joshua Heathman. Del is also survived by his siblings: Herbert Russell and his wife Sandra of Warren, Eleanor Fortini of Cape Canaveral, FL, Joyce Maybury of Vero Beach, FL, and Thelma Rogers of Cape Canaveral, FL, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Carol Landers of Holland, MA.
A Funeral Service for Delbert will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 1 PM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., in West Brookfield. Calling hours will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM prior to the service.
