Elizabeth A. “Betty” Tibbetts, 72

Brookfield - Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Gaffney) Tibbetts, 72, passed away on Wednesday March 15, 2017 from complications of a long term illness.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Robert J. Tibbetts, a granddaughter Bethany Marble and a brother Thomas Gaffney.  She leaves three daughters, Rebecca Tibbetts Luther and her partner Glenn Colliss of Rochester, NY, Roberta Tibbetts and her partner Keith Gadaire of Brookfield and Robin Tibbetts Marble and her partner Thomas Gravel of North Brookfield; a sister Beverly Willard and her husband James of Oakham;  a brother George Ostiguy and his wife Jane of Spencer; four grandchildren, Bryn Virkler and her husband Brad of Penfield, NY, Kelsey Cooper and her husband Michael of Irondequoit, NY, Robert Marble and his wife Taryn of North Brookfield and Zachary Luther of Rochester, NY; her great-granddaughter Braelynn Cooper, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.  Betty was born in North Brookfield, daughter of the later Joseph and Blanche (Gaffney) Ostiguy and grew up in North Brookfield.

Mrs. Tibbetts was employed at the Quaboag Nursing Home, the former William E. Wrights Company and finally Friendly’s Ice Cream where many friendships were formed.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Brookfield.

Betty devoted many years to the Brookfield Recreation Committee as a coach for the girls Softball team enjoying the many camping trips for softball tournaments in Northampton. She looked forward to spending time with her family vacationing at Hampton Beach in the summer, picnics at Holland Park and the Quabbin and spontaneous weekend getaways to destinations unknown.

A Funeral Mass for Elizabeth will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Church in Brookfield.  Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 4 to 6 PM in Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St. in West Brookfield.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brookfield Rescue Squad, 4 Central St., Brookfield, MA 01506 or to the Telegram & Gazette Santa Fund c/o Commerce Bank, P.O. Box 15204 Worcester, MA 01615-0204.
