Gilbertville - George H. Swett, 87, of Gilbertville died on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Quabbin Valley Health Center in Athol.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Diane P. (Dorman) Swett of Gilbertville; two sons, James D. Swett and his wife Nancy of Hardwick and Mark J. Swett and his wife Doreen of Ware; his daughter, Jennifer L. Taylor of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Eric Swett, Alyssa Chaves, Christopher Swett, Sean Swett, and Jocelyn Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Swett and Alyvia Swett; many nieces and nephews. He was born in Palmer, son of the late Clarence S. and Myrtle (Hawkes) Swett and grew up in Warren.
George spent his entire career with Warren Pumps as a machinist. In his early years, he also worked as a cook, an ambulance driver, and a police officer and was a lifetime member of the Southern Massachusetts Police Association. He could also often be seen working with his son Mark at Cluett’s Appliance Center where he enjoyed helping customers.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, cooking, bird-watching, and gardening. Many summer days you could find him sporting his Guayabera shirts, enjoying endless pool parties at the family home.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gilbertville Public Library or the Gilbertville Trinitarian Congregational Church.
