Warren - John M. "Jake" Banas, 70, of Warren died on Friday, June 22, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves his wife of 46 years, Kathleen A. Banas of Warren; his brother, Thomas Banas and his wife Pat of Fiskdale; two brothers-in-law, Keith LaPierre and his wife Robyn of Naples, FL, and Mark LaPierre and his wife Nancy of Spencer; a sister-in-law, Denise White of Kennebunkport, Maine; two nieces, Tara Kszepka-Czarneski and her husband Rob, and Deana Huneke; one nephew, Ryan LaPierre; two great-nephews, Alexander Kszepka and Ryder Kszepka, and one great-niece, Kaia Huneke. He was born in Ware, son of the late John S. and Rose (Gondek) Banas and was a life long resident of Warren.
Jake was a Lead Engineer at G.E. Power for 44 years, where he was recognized worldwide as a leader in the area boiler circulation.
He was an avid radio control flyer and was also a plastic modeler of civilian planes. Jake has been featured in Fine Scale Modeler Magazine as a world-class modeler.
He was a member of the Strawberry Patch RC Pilots of Sanford, Maine, the Wintonbury Flying Club of Bloomfield, CT, the American Modelers Association, the Wings and Wheels Modelers of Western New England, the International Plastic Modelers Society USA, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Calling hours for John will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 10 to 11:45am followed by a brief Funeral Service at 11:45am in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main Street, West Brookfield. A graveside service will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Jimmy Fund, C/O Bell & Hudson Insurance, P.O. Box 669, Belchertown, MA 01007, please notate “IMO Jake Banas”.
