Ware - Peter R. Hanifin, 80, of Ware passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at home.
He leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Beverly J. (Sporbert) Hanifin of Ware, three daughters, Beth Ligawiec of Ware, Karla-Jo Lapointe and her husband Joseph of Chicopee, and Pamela Kozlik and her husband David of Ware; five grandchildren, Brian and Emily-Jo Ligawiec of Ware, Heidi Mardirosian of West Brookfield, Michael Mezzetti of Chicopee, and Ian Kozlik, a member of the United States Marine Corps at Camp Lejuene, NC; two sisters, Johanne Plourde of Jupiter, FL and Martha Dussault of Denver, CO; his special neighbors, Mike and Kristen Konetzny; and his faithful companion, his dog Buddy. He was born in Springfield, beloved son of the late Robert E. and Mary Hanifin and was raised on the family farm in Belchertown which is now owned by UMASS.
Peter was a graduate of Monson-Wilbraham Academy, class of 1956. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 98, working all over New England for 25 years, before retiring in 1989.
Peter had a love for draft horses and belonged to the Eastern Draft Horse Association. He participated in pulls at many fairs along with his grandsons, Ian and Brian.
A Funeral Service for Peter will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 12:00 PM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 E. Main Street, in West Brookfield. Friends are welcome to a Calling Hour from 11:00AM – 12:00PM, prior to the service. Burial will be held at the families convenience. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New England Chapter of the Juvenial Diabetes Association, 60 Walnut Street, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.
