Brookfield/West Brookfield - Richard F. Landry, 83, of Brookfield, died on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Dodge Park Rest Home in Worcester.
He leaves his loving and caring wife of 54 years, Nancy A. (Simoneau) Landry; five sons, Joseph and his wife Elaine of West Brookfield, Daniel and his wife Kathleen of Brookfield, James and his wife Tammie of Ashford, CT, Richard and his wife Christine of Millbury, and Robert Landry; one daughter, Kathleen Landry and her partner Cliff of West Brookfield; thirteen grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Richard was predeceased by his brother Theodore Landry, Jr. and his sister Phyllis Thomas. He was born in Manchester, NH, son of the late Theordore E. and Frances A. (Evirs) Landry. He and Nancy lived in North Carolina for 19 years, and West Brookfield for 20 years, before moving to Brookfield 2 years ago.
Richard was a graduate of Classical High School in Worcester, the former Worcester Junior College, and Northeastern University in Boston where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.
Richard was a Utilities Manager at Massachusetts Electric for most of his career. He also enjoyed being the Instructor for public speaking courses at both Dale Carnegie and Worcester Night Life.
Mr. Landry was a veteran of the United States Navy, and remained an active member of the National Association of Naval Corpsman.
Richard served on the West Brookfield Rescue Squad for 20 years, was active in the Boy Scouts of America, where he regulary was a Scoutmaster, was a member of the Palmer Rotary Club, the former Palmer Chamber of Commerce, and also kept active by playing in senior league softball, and the senior olympics. Despite all he did, his greastest joys were being a husband, dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
A Funeral Mass for Richard will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, in the Sacred Heart Church in West Brookfield. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday evening, April 3, 2018 from 5 to 7PM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield. Burial with Military Honors will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 152079, Irving, TX 75015-2079.
