Ware - Robert A. Desforges, 97, of Ware died on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Baystate Wing Hospital. He was born in Ware, on August 12, 1921 to the late Arthur and Clara (Perreault) Desforges.
Robert was a United States Marine Corps veteran of WWII. He served with the First Marine Division, and was awarded the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action.
Robert worked as painter at the University Massachusetts in Amherst before retiring in 1986.
He leaves his daughter, Beverly Desforges of Southbridge; a brother, Alfred Desforges and his companion, Ruth Kinell of Brookfield; a sister-in-law, Jean Mongeau of Ware, and several nephews and nieces and great-nephews and nieces.
Robert was predeceased by his wife of over 70 years, Gloria R. Desforges in 2017. He was also predeceased by his four brothers, Leo, Arthur, Paul and Clifford Desforges and three sisters, Rita Wisnoski, Edna Mclaughlin, and Laurette Harszy.
Robert was a member of the Ware Knights of Columbus. He was an avid card player and fisherman, along with his friend, John. Robert and Gloria enjoyed spending many winters in Sarasota, Florida.
A Graveside Service for Robert will be held in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Ware at a later date. Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., in Ware is assisting his family with arrangements.
