New Braintree - Shirley A. (Slocomb) Martin, 78, of New Braintree passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family after a brief battle with lung cancer. Shirley was born on October 9, 1940 in Medford. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband. She was also predeceased by her brother, Robert Slocomb and daughter, Lynda Martin. She leaves her children, Robert Martin and his wife Cynthia, Cindy Dwelly and her husband Greg, and William Martin and his wife Elizabeth. She will be missed by her many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and nieces.
Shirley lived most of her life in Cherry Valley, then moved to New Braintree 19 years ago. She was retired from Norton Company. She wore many hats throughout her life, but being a mom, a gram and an aunt were her most loved roles. She loved being around her family and that's when she was happiest. She had a way of making you feel loved and special whenever you were with her. She loved family gatherings, especially cookouts and a good burnt hot dog. She also loved flowers, humming birds, animals and more importantly her dog Scampy, who lived for almost 20 years and brought her so much joy.
A special thanks from her family goes out to all of the caregivers at VNA of Southern Worcester County and Central MA Hospice. Every person we came in contact with through both agencies were warm, compassionate and caring. We are so grateful for their kindness.
