WARE -Tilmon Joseph “Tilly” Legere Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2017, in the Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center, following an extended period of declining health.

Tilly was born July 21, 1937 in Ware, son of the late Tilmon and Doris (Newton) Legere.  He graduated from Hardwick High and Vocational School.  Tilly made his home in Ware, with his soulmate Marie, who cared for him until the end.   He is also survived by his son, William, and his daughter, Arlene Legere also of Ware; Marie Stacy of Ware, along with her children Joe, Mike, and Moe Berthiaume, and Ken and Larry Stacy whom he thought of as his own; his sisters, Bette and her husband Andrew of Enosburg Vermont, Marjorie and her late husband Ted Supka of Ware, and many nieces and nephews.  He will be deeply missed by all.

Mr. Legere worked as a painter at the former Belchertown State School for 24 years. After retiring, he worked for Frankie Wenzel for many years on the farm.  He was an honorary member of the Belchertown Firefighters Museum, where he was instrumental in its restoration.  He loved playing cards with his many friends and family, and was known for his skill in playing pitch.  He also enjoyed deep sea fishing, and ice fishing, and was also a member of the bowling league at Roll-A-Way Lanes in Ware for many years.  Tilly had a fondness for all animals. They could sense his gentle nature, and often could be found by his side.

A Funeral Service for Tilly will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00AM in the Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., Ware.  Calling hours will be held from 9 to 11AM, prior to the service.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery at a later date.
