Brookfield - C. Allen Martell, 96, of Boyes Ave., died Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves one son, Douglas Martell and his wife Babs of West Brookfield; two daughters, Carol Humphrey of Brookfield and Constance Martell of North Brookfield; three sisters, Gladys Rocheau of Saint Albans, VT, Gloria Martell of Alburg, VT and Lorraine Chevalier of Swanton, VT; four grandchildren, Peter Martell and David Martell and his wife Erin of Brookfield, Kerry Miner and her husband Justin of North Brookfield and Denette Schlager and her husband Rick of Brentwood, NH; four great-grandchildren, Alexa, Ethan, Curtis and Ted and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Laura F. Martell in 2010. He was born in Alburg, VT son of the late Levi and Marie (Belair) Martell and grew up in Vermont and later lived in West Brookfield before moving to Brookfield in 1972.
Mr. Martell was the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Brookfield for 26 years before retiring in 2003, at the age of 83. Always visible around town, Allen had a dedicated work ethic along with a friendly wave, and willingness to help out however he could.
He was a member of the Brookfield Congregational Church in Brookfield.
Allen's family would like to thank the Spirit Lifters of the Brookfield Congregational Church and Central Mass Hospice for their help and loving care.
A Funeral Service for Allen will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2016 from 5 to 7 PM in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent and burial will be at the convenience of his family in Brookfield Cemetery.
