Obituary

WEST BROOKFIELD: Anita "Annie" Marie Pikul, 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The Pikul Family bid farewell to one of its kindest and most beloved members. Anita was born on March 19, 1954, in Ware, MA to Rita (Bacon and George Pikul. She was raised in Palmer Center, in a neighborhood filled with her siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. Annie, as she was affectionately called as a child, attended St. Anne Grammar School in Three Rivers. In 1972, she graduated from Palmer High School, where she received awards in History and Elementary School Tutoring, as well as served as Circulation Manager for the school paper, The Panther.

Music played an important part of her life and as a young adult, you would most likely find her singing in the PHS Concert Choir, St. Anne Church Choir or the annual St. Anne Soiree variety show. One of her fondest memories was taking part in her class musical, Brigadoon. Anita attended Holyoke Community College and then entered the work force. A compassionate individual, her employment history included time at both Belchertown State School and Monson Developmental Center, helping to maintain the dignity of those under her care.

God, family and friends were always a priority with Anita, and she made sure she stayed in touch with as many people as possible, checking to see how they were doing and if anyone needed prayers. Her closest friends referred to these calls as her "Phone Ministry." Cousins, aunts and uncles always looked forward to her Christmas, Easter and birthday greeting calls. She treasured her Catholic faith and most recently was a member of All Saints Church in Ware and the "Prayer for All" prayer group. Over the years, Anita bravely faced numerous health challenges and always put her trust in God to see her through. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.

To cherish her memory, Anita leaves her siblings: Christine Ennis of Arizona, Marcia Nadeau and her husband Phillip of Warren, Carolyn Bleau of South Carolina, Charles Pikul of Palmer and Catherine Poulin and her husband Scott of Wilbraham; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Anita was predeceased by her parents, her brother John Pikul, her sister Amy Pikul, her uncle Paul Bacon, her aunt Doris Yakum and her uncle Thomas Yakum and brother-in-law Bruce Bleau.

Please join the Pikul Family in honoring Anita's life on Tuesday, November 10, 2026. A Calling hour will be from 10-11am in All Saints Church, 17 North Street, Ware, MA 01082 followed by her funeral Mass at 11am. Burial will follow in New St. William Cemetery, Ware, MA.
