Brenda P. Hart, 78
Brookfield - Brenda P. "Nana" (Banthorpe) Hart, 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 2, 2015, surrounded by her adoring family.
She leaves her loving husband of 42 years, David M. Hart; three sons, Richard M. Barr and his wife Laura of Holbrook, David A. Barr of Avon, and Jeffrey T. Barr and his wife Karen of Holden; a daughter, Sharon L. Barr of Worcester; two step-daughters, Joanne M. Hart of West Warren and Sheila A. Hart of West Brookfield; four brothers, Thomas, Edward, Barry and Robert Banthorpe, all of Ipswich, England; three sisters, Rhoda Miller of Ipswich, England, Joan King of Jacksonville, FL, and Rita Otahal of Eagle, WI; nine grandchildren, Melanie Gagne and her husband Alan; Melissa, Chris, Emily and Rachel Barr; Mathew Goguen; Andrew, Lindsay, and Kirsten Paquette; four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan, Marcos, and Savannah; and many nieces and nephews. She was born in Ipswich, England, daughter of the late Harold and Winifred (Harvey) Banthorpe and grew up there before moving to New York in 1954. She lived in Brookfield for the past 42 years.
Brenda was a longtime, active member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church in North Brookfield. She enjoyed homemaking and crocheting but her greatest joy was caring for and spending time with her loving family and friends. She leaves her legacy of unconditional love and compassion for all who knew her and will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank all of the caring and compassionate people at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and VNA Care Network & Hospice as well as the numerous friends that were always there for her during her times of need.
A funeral service for Brenda will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Pilgrim Baptist Church, 33 West Brookfield Rd., North Brookfield. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 6, 2015 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield. Burial will be in Brookfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Brenda to one of the charities listed below.
