Catherine Mary (Collins) Cook, 80, of Ware, MA passed away peacefully at home on June 23, 2022, following her year-long struggle with primary myelofibrosis.
Catherine was born and raised in West Springfield, MA, the daughter of the late Russell and Rita (Fossa) Collins. Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved son, James Hunter Mullane. She leaves behind her husband of 37 years, David G. Cook; daughters Glennis (Kane) Lovell of North Grafton and Stephanie (Kane) Demers and husband Paul of Albuquerque, NM; sons Howard "Mick" Burns of Sandisfield and Justin Cook of Ware; and grandchildren Rachel (Lovell) Wuchter of Easthampton, Kane Demers of Albuquerque, and Jacoby Cook of Ware. Over the course of her life, Catherine also served as a loving foster parent to many.
She had a remarkable green thumb, raising vegetables and blueberries, and she was locally known as the "Herb Lady." She prepared taxes at H&R Block in Ware for more than a decade and served as the Treasurer for the Ware Grange. Catherine previously lived in Brimfield for more than 20 years and was a member of the Steerage Rock Riders Club, taught Sunday School at the Congregational Church, served as the Town Treasurer and was an active member of the Council on Aging. She was a freelance journalist for the Palmer Journal, the Timekeeper for the former Monson State Hospital, and a member of the American Kennel Club.
Catherine was grateful to the doctors, nurses, friends and family members who helped her through her struggle with this rare disease. The family will hold a private graveside service at the New Saint William's Cemetery in Ware. Donations can be made to: MPN International Research Foundation:
