West Brookfield – Claire C. Wirf, 93, died on Wednesday evening, May 14th, 2025, with her loving family by her side, in Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care where she was a resident.
She leaves her son, Kenneth R. Wirf and his wife, Sandra, of West Brookfield. She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Carol Wirf; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by three of her sixteen brothers and sisters, Eugene Desroches of Massachusetts, Robert Desroches of New York, and Paul Desroches of Connecticut. Claire was predeceased by her beloved husband of 35 years, George O. Wirf and by her son, Brian G. Wirf. She was born at home in Spencer, to the late Alphonse J. and Fernande C. (Prefontaine) Desroches.
Claire worked in the offices of Hardwick Knitted Fabrics, as well as in the offices of the Wm. E. Wright Co. in West Warren. She was a long-time member of George Whitefield United Methodist Church in West Brookfield, where she proudly sang in their choir. She was extremely involved in her community - volunteering for Meals on Wheels, the Community Food Bank in West Brookfield, and served as a council member for the West Brookfield Senior Center. She enjoyed attending many basketball games at Quaboag Regional High School in Warren, as well as bingo nights in Spencer.
A graveside service for Claire will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 11:30am in Pine Grove Cemetery in West Brookfield. A calling hour will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am in the Varnum Funeral Home, 43 East Main St. in West Brookfield, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, Claire has requested that memorial donations be made to the West Brookfield Rescue Squad, PO Box 540, West Brookfield, MA 01585.
