Ware – Dennis E. Lewis, 80 of Ware, died at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer on Sunday evening, October 27, 2024, after being stricken suddenly ill.
He leaves his daughters, Cynthia S. Strniste and her husband Paul of West Boylston. Teresa L. Melvin and her husband Kevin of West Warren, Denise M. Pagnoni (deceased 2010) married to Joseph Pagnoni now married to April. His grandchildren, Jason, Seanna and her husband Nate Lamb, Travis and his wife Amanda, Desmond, Kim and her significant other Josh, Kyle and Sydney and his great-grandchildren, Emma, Brian, Reaghan, Walker, and Carter. He also leaves his brother, Daniel E. Lewis of St. George, Utah, his former work colleagues and friends, and his beloved and loyal dog of 14 years, May.
Dennis was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Susanna L. (Resch) Lewis in 2004.
He was born in Marion, Ohio, son of the late Warren E. and Norma I. (Powell) Lewis.
Dennis earned his master’s degree in building construction from the University of Florida, where he was also a professor. He worked for H.P. Cummings Construction Company for 30 years, rising to Vice President. He was strongly involved in Mary Lane Hospital renovations and construction, and a firm believer in keeping it as a community hospital. He was trustee of Ware Country Bank. Besides being an expert within his field, he held many facets over his lifetime – commercial pilot, owner of a small aviation company with a flying school, an inventor who holds six patents. He played many instruments which he learned by ear. He enjoyed maintaining a beautiful home and lawn. The times that he thought to be the best though, were those spent with his family.
A Funeral Mass for Dennis will be held on November 11, at 10:00 a.m. in All Saints Church, 17 North Street in Ware.
