Donald W. Boone
WARE -- Donald W. Boone, 79, passed away on January 21st at the Soldiers' Home of Holyoke. He was born in Henderson NC, son of William and Mary Leigh (Cottingham) Boone, and lived in Ware for 26 years with his beloved wife, Janice (Orszulak) Boone. He leaves his children David Pinney and his wife Diane of Westford, Lisa Rico and her husband Tim of Ashland, and Michelle McGuigan and her husband Shannon of Ware, his grandchildren Sean Pinney, Benjamin Rico, and Thomas McGuigan. He also leaves his sisters Maria Prince of Wilson NC and Joyce Brown of Williamsburg VA.
Don proudly served his country for 20 years in the US Marine Corps, during the Korean and Vietnam War eras, holding the rank of Master Sergeant. While serving in Recon, he performed special missions throughout the world. Don served an additional 8 years in the US Marine Corps Reserves, and was first to work on computers when they were initially introduced to the military. He worked for several years at Kanzaki Specialty Papers in Ware. Don especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His hobbies included gardening, carpentry, fishing, watching NASCAR, and Bingo. He enjoyed time spent in Maine, Cape Cod, and Myrtle Beach. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday Jan. 31st at 10 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Route 202 in Granby. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to The Holyoke Soldiers' Home, 110 Cherry St. Holyoke MA 01040. Charbonneau Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
