Donald H. Dorfer,76, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness, on December 22nd, in attendance and providing comfort was his dedicated, nurse, caregiver and friend Cathy Duncan and his brother-in-law Larry Sparano.
Donald was on the Warren Board of Assessment, was a active in many circles, and was well-known, liked and respected. He spent 27 years in the US Navy, and rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He served during the Vietnam War and Cold War era. He had numerous tours of duty in the Mediterranean. He was awarded many citations and medals including a number of Bronze Stars. He served aboard the aircraft carrier JFK, the USS Okinawa, the USS Cascade and the USS Fulton, a submarine tender.
Donald was born in Passaic NJ son of Henry and Betty (Malka) Dorfer. He was preceded in death by his wife Cassandra Sparano Dorfer, who was also active in town politics, and was office manager for the Amherst Railway Society, and was a member of the Warren Rural Improvement Society, and like Donald was a member of the National Chrysler Products Club.
Donald is survived by his brother-in-law Larry Sparano and his wife Sharon Soltis Sparano of LaPlume Pa.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday Dec. 30th from the Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St. in Ware with a Mass at 10am in St. Paul's Church in Warren. Burrial will be held in Pine Grove cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 pm.
