Floyd R. Maynard, 90, passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2015. He was born in South River, NJ, the son of Floyd M. Maynard and Myrtle A. (Hays) Maynard.
A 1950 graduate of the University of Massachusetts and a New England Newspaper Fellow he was the retired editor of the Ware River News. Before joining the staff of the Ware River News he was employed by the Amherst Journal, the Berkshire Eagle, the Needham Chronicle and the Springfield Union.
Maynard was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving two years in the Pacific Ocean areas. Robie, as he was known by many, served in various town committees over the years as a member of the Ware Planning Board, member and Vice Chairman of the Ware Charter Commission of the 1970's, member and past President of the Ware Rotary Club, honorary Trustee of Country Bank for Savings and a corporate member of the Young Men's Library Association. He was involved in many performances of the Ware Community Theater and was a charter member of the Ware Historical Society.
He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years Flora D. (Wharton) Maynard. He is survived by his four children, Laurie M. Woron of Vernon, CT, Steven C. Maynard and his companion Erika Braun of Boylston, MA, Leslie M. Wood and her husband James of Ware, MA, and Richard H. Maynard and his wife Bethany of Ludlow, MA, eight grandchildren, Justin and Alicia Wood, Logan and Alanna Maynard, Luke and Jeremy Woron, Amanda McLaughlin and Hays Maynard, and a great grandchild Aurora Provencal. The calling hours are at Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant Street, Ware, at 10 am on Friday, September 11, 2015, with a service at the funeral home at 11:30, followed by a burial at New St. Williams Cemetery in Ware. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Young Men's Library Association, 37 Main Street, Ware, MA.
