Pittsburgh - Gregg J. Weis, 76, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in their summer cottage.
He leaves behind his wife, Karen L. Nelson of Pittsburgh, PA; his daughter, Shannon Walker and her husband Bryan; his step-son, Eric Nelson and his wife Tamara; his step-daughter, Lisa Levine and her husband Quinn Luke; and his step-daughter, Rebecca Levine. He also leaves his brother, Gil Weis and his wife Barbara; his sister, Joy Kass and her husband Walt; his uncle and aunt, George and Marie Ahrens; his grandchildren, Lindsey, Brady, Mariah, Shiloh, and Hudson; his nephews, Brandon, Rigel, Jarrod, and Logan; and his cousins, Kim and Jan. He was predeceased by his nephew, Tanner. He was born in Queens, NY, son of the late Warren and Ruth (Ahrens) Weis.
Upon graduating from college, Gregg earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He went on to own and operate his own construction business, which he grew and nurtured throughout most of his work life.
Gregg was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a kind and caring brother, son, and uncle, and an incredible friend to many. He was a very service-oriented man who loved the work he could do for others - a proud carpenter and craftsman. He built a house in rural West Virginia surrounded by friends, and he enjoyed all the time he was able to spend in nature. He loved all sports, and excelled at most of them, but basketball was by far his best and favorite. He played basketball in college and could challenge the best of them, despite his relatively short stature. He fought a heroic battle with Parkinson's disease for twenty-five years. Although his disease was progressive, he did not let it stop him from living life to the fullest. He continued to spend treasured time with family and friends, travel, entertain, cook, serve in his church and community, and maintain his home and garden, all with a smile, confidence and perseverance.
He was devout in his Christian faith and was a member of the Crosspointe Church in Pittsburgh, PA.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 16th, 2024 at 10am in Crosspointe Church, 2581 Freeport Road, Pittsburgh, PA, 15238. A Celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11am, and a luncheon will follow at noon.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Crosspointe Church, attention missions or Compassion International.
