North Brookfield - Gwendolyn H. (Cunningham) Hargreaves, 92, died Saturday, December 12, 2015 in the Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center.
She leaves one son, Paul Hargreaves of North Brookfield; one daughter, Cynthia Becker of North Brookfield; her twin brother, Orville Cunningham of Manchester, NH; two grandchildren, Robbie and his wife Kellie, and Jacleen and three great-grandchildren, Leah, Grace and Rose. Her husband of 55 years, Robert W. Hargreaves died in 2007. She was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, daughter of the late Edward and Priscilla (Thayer) Cunningham and moved to North Brookfield in 1952, and then in 1988 moved to West Brookfield with her husband before returning to North Brookfield in 2008. She was a graduate of the Robertson Female Seminary and in 1945 graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education.
Mrs. Hargreaves was an elementary school teacher for 28 years, teaching in the towns of Hopedale, Natick, Belmont and then North Brookfield before retiring in 1988.
Gwendolyn was a member of the First Congregational Church in North Brookfield and served on several committees. She was a member of the North Brookfield Bridge Club for many years as well as the Bridge Club in West Brookfield, and enjoyed rug braiding and making crafts.
A Memorial Service for Gwendolyn will be held Saturday, January 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the First Congregational Church in North Brookfield. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
