Obituary

OAKHAM: Harold C. Black, 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, with his family by his side. His wife of 51 years, Stephanie (Morse) black predeceased him. He is survived by his children: Karen Black and her partner Shawn Freeman of Oakham, Harold L. and Stephanie T. Black, Sr. of Oakham; his grandchildren: Harold L. Black, Jr. of Oakham, Mackenzie Black of Oakham, Sophia Serrano of Oakham, Samantha Freeman of Worcester and Madison Freeman of Oakham; 3 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Marie Blake and her husband Mark of Winchendon, James Black of Oakham and Linda Black of Oakham; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his pup, Poppie.

Harold was born in Ware and raised in Oakham the son of the late Harold E. and Carol (Davis) Black, Jr. He graduated Quabbin Regional High School in 1972, began working at a young age on his family farm, Peg Mill Farm and met the love of his life Stephanie when he began working at Eva Grimes Farm in Oakham. They soon married on August 10, 1975, and started their family. Harold worked as a truck driver for many companies in the area over the years, most recently FT Smith, where he was still working until 2023. He was a hardworking and dedicated man, he loved his job, not wanting to retire. When he was home, he could always be found driving his John Deere Tractor, maintaining the farm, haying his fields and spending time with his family. His pride and joy were his grandchildren and he loved spoiling them-anything they wanted he’d make happen. Family was everything to Harold. All who knew and loved him will miss him dearly.
