Harold A. Gushue, Jr.

Warren - Harold A. Gushue, Jr., 80, of Warren, died on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center after a period of declining health.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Mildred A. (Hoyle) Gushue as well as his sister, Deborah Boucher. He was born in Springfield, son of the late Harold A. Gushue and Irene (Marcil) Gushue, grew up in Chicopee.
Harold worked as a newspaper reporter for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette for 40 years before retiring. He moved to Worcester County in 1965 when he was first hired by the paper which was then called the Worcester Telegram & Evening Gazette. He was part of the paper's merger to the Telegram & Gazette. After training in the North County region, he transferred to the Blackstone Valley region. In 1969, he moved over to the South County Region, settling in Warren in 1972. He would take his own photographs, and write the articles using a typewriter and teletype machine, and then learned to transition to computers. He enjoyed being a reporter, and his name would often appear in the paper writing about local news and stories throughout the area. If it was news, Harold was on the story - anything from town meetings, municipal building projects such as new schools and the proposed mini-city project in Warren, accidents, fires, fairs, and even brawls. Nicknamed "Gush," he wasn't afraid to ask the questions needed to gain insight for the article he was working on.
He was a former member of the Capital Planning Committee for the town of Warren and the Polish Club in West Warren. He was also an accomplished classical accordionist.
A Celebration of Life for Harold will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11am in the First Congregational Church of West Brookfield, 36 North Main Street, in West Brookfield. Guests are invited to attend a luncheon at the church following the Celebration of Life ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sharing Cupboard Food Pantry, First Congregational Church of West Brookfield, P.O. Box 371, West Brookfield, MA 01585. Donations of food including condiments, coffee, crackers, cookies, pudding, and dessert mixes would be appreciated.
