Herbert E. "Herbie" Houghton

Warren - Herbert E. "Herbie" Houghton, 76, of Warren, died on Saturday, February 11, 2017, on his birthday, at Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in West Brookfield, surrounded by his family.
Herbert was born in Ware and resided in Warren all his life. He was a graduate of Warren High School, where he played on the baseball team. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps for four years, serving in Europe. Mr. Houghton worked for several area companies as a general laborer over the years.
He leaves behind his sisters, Louise Dickinson of Brimfield, and Jean Burnham and Barbara Morin of Warren; sister-in-law, Shirley Houghton of Ware, and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Daisy (Keehlwetter) Houghton, and siblings, Henry, John, James and Catherine Carbonneau.
Herbie enjoyed having coffee and spending social time at the Warren Package Store, as well as reading and watching television. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, and was happy that they won this year's Super Bowl.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 2 to 4PM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main Street, West Brookfield. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Warren in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Warren Fire Department and Ambulance, P.O. Box 608, Warren, MA 01083.
