Hudson R. Bennett, 95

New Braintree - Hudson R. Bennett, 95, of West Rd., died Thursday, November 20, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.



He leaves his wife of 63 years, Shirley M. (Gray) Bennett; one son, Hudson D. Bennett and his wife Jessica of New Braintree; one daughter, Carolyn M. DiCicco and her partner Kim Furlong of South Royalton, VT; six grandchildren, Peter B. DiCicco, Laura M. Leavitt, Hudson L. Bennett, Connor W. Bennett, Griffin M. Bennett and Collin J. Bennett and several nieces and nephews.  A brother, Howard R. Bennett predeceased him.  He was born in Ware son of the late Hudson M. and Ethel M. (Wilder) Bennett and grew up and lived in West Brookfield before moving to New Braintree 63 years ago.



Mr. Bennett worked for 35 years for Collins Electric as a commercial electrician before retiring in 1984.  He also worked with his son at H. D. Bennett Machine for many years "after retirement".



He was a W.W. II Navy Veteran.



Hud was a member of the New Braintree Congregational Church, the Bay Path Lodge of Masons where he was a past master and was one of the original engineers of the New Braintree Fire Department.  He served his community as a selectman, finance member and served as the electrical inspector for many years and was a former corporator and trustee of North Brookfield Savings Bank.  His hobbies included tinkering with his collections of antique clocks and weaving, which he taught himself at age 85.  He also kept active walking and riding his stationary bike.



A Funeral Service for Hudson will be held Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the New Braintree Congregational Church, 3 Oakham Rd. in New Braintree.  Burial will be in Southwest Cemetery.  There are no calling hours. Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
