James H. Carberry, Iii

December 17, 1946 — September 28, 2022

Ware- It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband and father at Baystate Medical Center on September 28, 2022 at the age of 75.  His loving wife and son were by his side when he had passed. Jim was the first born to James H. Carberry Jr., an immigrant of Belfast, Ireland, and Irene Corlett Carberry, an immigrant of Northumberland, England, on December 17,1946 in Jersey City, NJ.

Jim grew up in Kearny, NJ, in which he attended local schools and communed at the First Presbyterian Church of Kearny.

Jim served in the Navy as a radioman from 1966 to 1972 and was honorably discharged.  His assignments were Sachuest Point, Newport, RI and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Taking advantage of the GI Bill, Jim received both undergraduate and master's degrees in Business and Finance from Rutgers University in Newark, in which he made the Dean's List and earned a membership to the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.

While in college, Jim worked at his cousin Ace's junkyard in the New Jersey Meadowlands. The junkyard was his playground.  Jim loved working on cars with his Dad, who taught him much of what he knows.

Jim's family owned a cottage on Lewis Lake in Uniondale, PA for most of his life.  The carefree summers of his youth were spent there fly fishing, boating and just having fun.

During Memorial Day weekend in 1975 at Lewis Lake, Jim met a girl from Massachusetts on a blind date.  It was love at first sight and they wed 3 years later on November 24, 1978 on Thanksgiving Friday. Their only child was born a year after they moved into their home in Ware.  This is where Jim spent the remainder of his life.

In 2006, after 20 years, Jim retired from Nova Chemicals.   He worked with a great group  in who he thought the world of.

Jim enjoyed attending his son's sporting events, gardening, family gatherings, and every moment with his adoring grand-daughters.  Jim was very generous with his time to anyone who needed help in any way.

He was a kind and loving man with a good sense of humor.

Jim leaves his loving wife of almost 44 years, Bernadette Thompson Carberry, his beloved son James IV and his granddaughters Azzarra and Zariyah of Enfield, CT. He leaves his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Carberry; nieces Stacey and Stephanie and nephew Kevin Carberry, all of South Carolina.  He also leaves his Thompson in-laws, whom he considered his own family:  Peter and Polly of Wilbraham; Michael and Claire of Wilbraham; Timothy and Debra Westmoreland, NH; Robert and Kathleen of Springfield; Mark and Janet of Durham CT; Eliza and Daniel Eberli of Ludlow. He leaves his nieces and nephews with whom he enjoyed spending time with: Derrick, Tracey, Colin, Cullen , Brenna, Christopher, Kara, Matthew, Sarah, Peter, Breanne, Wesley, Ian, Olivia, Hannah and Jacob. Jim also leaves behind many dear friends and neighbors he was privileged to have in his life. In addition to his parents, Jim is predeceased by brother-in-laws, Richard (Rene) Fort Lauderdale, FL and Vincent (Deidre) Ludlow. Sadly, Jim's nephew Timothy also predeceased him in 2015.
