James P. Christie, III, 88
Hardwick - James P. Christie, III, 88, formerly of Keene, NH, passed away peacefully April 16, 2016, after a period of failing health.
He was born in Andover, Mass., June 29, 1927, son of James P. Christie 2nd and Thelma (Wanamaker) Christie.
In 1944, after graduating from Phillips Andover Academy, Mr. Christie joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Juneau (CL-119). Following his service in the Navy, he attended and graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. He met Joanne Stratton Wilkes there and they married on Oct. 6, 1951.
Mr. Christie worked many years for Economics Laboratory Inc. He was the district sales manager in New York City, and then was national director of marketing development. When he "retired" from Economics Laboratory Inc., he bought a small restaurant in Lake Placid, N.Y., and along with his wife and family, operated that for five years.
Mr. Christie loved music and the outdoors. He was an avid fly fisherman and made many fishing trips to Canada and Iceland. He also loved the sport of curling; he qualified and competed in five U.S. Men's National Championships. He also loved to golf and was a member of various golf clubs in the United States, his favorite being the Indian River Club in Vero Beach, Fla.
Survivors include his children, Roger Christie and his wife, Gwen, of Ware, Mass., Dianne Pinney and her husband, Mark, of LeSueur, Minn., Andy Christie and his wife, Rhonda Patnode, of Keene, and Karen Christie of Kalispell, Mont. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Kelly (Christie) Relihan, Ryan Christie, Lisa (Pinney) Johnson, David Pinney, Mercedes Hoerner and Jenna Christie; along with his twin great-grandsons, Ian and Luke Johnson.
His wife of 50 years, Joanne Christie, and a sister, Dorothy Leitch of Tilton, died earlier.
Private services will be held at a later date in his family's plot at Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover, Mass.
