West Brookfield

West Brookfield - James F. “Jim” Pierce, 91, of West Brookfield, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

Born on June 3, 1934, Jim spent his entire life in the town he loved. He was a man who could be counted on—whether helping neighbors with lawn care, serving for the Council on Aging, or simply being a trusted friend. Jim grew up working on his parents’ farm on Ragged Hill and he delighted in sharing stories from those early years. He fondly recalled riding his pony to the one-room schoolhouse, sledding down Ragged Hill, and helping family members escape floodwater by canoe.

Jim’s greatest pride was his family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Louise, in 2024, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and cherished memories. He leaves behind his son, David J. Pierce and his wife Leane of West Brookfield, and his daughter, Donna L. Kenward and her husband Robert of Palmyra, Virginia. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Nathan Kenward (Heather), Krista Zalatores (Collin Myers), Ashley Baldi (Robert), Jennifer Ramsey (Sean), Bryan Kenward (Jess), and Tyler Pierce; and eight great-grandchildren: Oliver, Hayden, and Madison Baldi; William, Emersyn, and Callahan Ramsey; Emmett Zalatores Myers; and Aiden Kenward.

After an early retirement from Pratt & Whitney, Jim devoted himself to his grandchildren, bringing him endless joy. He was known as “Bubba” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which was a symbol of a playful spirit, love, and support. His home was filled with laughter - children playing in the yard, swimming at the lake, or simply spending time together.

One of the most meaningful moments of Jim’s later years came on his 90th birthday, when he was interviewed by the local newspaper. What began as a milestone celebration became a joyful reconnection with old friends, neighbors, and members of the community. The experience meant a great deal to him, reminding him how deeply woven he was into the fabric of the town he called home.

Those fortunate enough to call Jim a friend will remember his sense of humor, warmth, and gentle soul. His legacy will live on through the love he shared with his family, kindness he showed his community, and the many lives he touched.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Services for Jim will be held in the spring. Varnum Funeral Home, 43 East Main St., in West Brookfield is assisting his family with his care and arrangements. An online tribute page is available at varnumfuneralhome.com
