Charlton - Jean (Risley) Hall, 89, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at her home in Charlton with her daughter by her side.
She leaves her four children, Stephen Hall and his wife Debbie of Murrietta, CA, Deborah Hampilos and her husband Gus of Menlo Park, CA, Jonathan Hall and his wife Vickie of Vernon, VT and Samuel Hall and his wife Kerry of Coventry, CT; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, John T."Jack" Hall in 2008. She was born May 14, 1925 in West Brookfield, MA daughter of the late Maurice T. and Elizabeth (Foster) Risley and grew up in the yellow Victorian on Long Hill Rd that her grandmother built. She later lived in Beaver Falls, PA, Escondido, CA, Allendale, SC, Deerfield, MA and Agawam, MA before moving to Charlton. She was a graduate of the former Warren High School and Russell Sage College where she graduated with a degree in Business.
Jean was a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sturbridge and was active in the Daughters of the Nile, the Eastern Star, the Daughters of the Revolution and the Mayflower Society. She was also an avid knitter and spent many hours knitting for charity.
She was an amateur genealogist and delighted in the discovery of previously unknown ancestors. Jean and her husband Jack traveled the world together and visited Japan, Ireland, Wales, England, Scotland, Mexico and Canada. Both were avid RV'ers, and over their 60 years together, they visited every state in the continental United States.
A Funeral Service for Jean will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Overlook Masonic Health Center, 88 Masonic Home Rd. in Charlton. A calling hour will be held prior to the service from 1 to 2 PM in the chapel. Burial will be in the spring in Pine Grove Cemetery in West Brookfield. Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
