Jean Salvucci of 159 Upper Church St. died his home in Hardwick , after a long illness, on Tuesday surrounded by family. Jean would have been 87 years old on March 31st. He was born in Boston MA, in 1928, son of Loreto , who had immigrated from Italy, and Phyllis (Parsonage), who had immigrated from England, Salvucci. He grew up in Watertown MA. At 16 he was double promoted and graduated from high school a year early in order to enter World War II. He was loved , respected and admired by family, and friends in this community and in his previous homes in Palm Harbor FL, and Millis MA. Jean served proudly in the Marine Corps in World War II, serving in the Asian Pacific and China. He served his country again during the Korean War. He was a highly decorated veteran, and was an active member in veterans' affairs until his death. He was a life member of the VFW, and served as Past Middlesex County District Commander and Post Commander of the Millis Legion Post, and was an active member of Marine Corps League # 567. Jean began his professional life in construction, at an early age, as a water boy, then ran a steam shovel, supervised multiple construction projects in New England, was commissioner of Public Works in Millis and later went on to the Chief Engineer Inspector of Roads and Bridges in Pinellas County FL. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vivian (McMullen) Salvucci, their 5 children, Mark Salvucci and his wife Gayle of San Mateo CA, Dee Salvucci of Concord, Richard Salvucci and his wife Valerie of Oroville CA, Jean Blake and her husband Scott of Franklin, and Dan Salvucci and his husband Doug Anderson of Hardwick, He also leaves 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and his 2 brothers Loreto of Dover and John of Kissimmee FL. Jean was a warm, friendly presence in the world, who loved vegetable gardening, building stone walls and a competitive Bocce game. He had quiet strength and unique wisdom. He will be sorely missed by family and friends and the world will be an emptier place without his presence. A Memorial Service for Jean will be held in the Spring.
