He leaves behind his beloved wife, Deborah L. DeCoste of West Brookfield; his daughter, Carrie M. DeCoste of Warwick, RI; his daughter, Eileen M. Wetherell and her husband, Jack, of Palmer; his son, John S. DeCoste III and his wife, Amanda, of Plymouth; as well as five of his six sisters, Natalie Ellard and her husband, John, of Gloucester; Jean Bronecki and her husband, Emil, of Wisconsin; Barbara Hodges of Nahant; Carole Gilardi and her husband, Sal, of Gloucester; and Norma Lyons and her husband, Charlie, of Peabody. He also leaves behind his four beloved grandchildren, Jordan, Kyle, Ryan and Benjamin; as well as his many nieces and nephews. Jack loved his cat, Harvey, who provided him with so much love and comfort. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Geary. He was born in Gloucester, son of the late John S. and Margaret E. (Rogers) DeCoste.
Jack grew up in Gloucester for roughly the first 35 years of his life. He went on to work as a machinist for TurboCare in Chicopee for 30 years. He loved music of all kinds, as well as many of the classic and sci-fi movies – especially Jaws. He was an avid skier in the wintertime, and in the spring and summer he enjoyed tending to his home, lawn and garden, making sure that everything looked just right. He was an avid Patriots fan and enjoyed watching every game!
Jack was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam era. Although it was not originally his choice to join the service, he quickly grew very proud to serve his country, and he did so honorably and with wholehearted reverence. He was loved by all who were lucky enough to know him, especially by his church family, and he will be forever missed.
