Lorenzo Francis Blackmer

Lorenzo F. Blackmer Jr, 89 of Hardwick, MA passed away peacefully on December 22, 2016 at his home.

He was born in Ware, MA on May 5, 1927, a son of Lorenzo F. and Ruth (Thresher) Blackmer.

Lorenzo graduated from Hardwick High and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II.  He was honorably discharged in November of 1947.  He worked as an Arterial Foreman for the Massachusetts Highway Department until his retirement in 1992.  He also was a former Scoutmaster, a former partner of Blackmer Brothers Express, a former Highway Supervisor for the Town of Hardwick and a former member of the Board of Assessors.

In his retirement he enjoyed fishing on the Quabbin.

Lorenzo was an active communicant of St. Aloysius Church in Gilbertville, MA, having volunteered and served on several committees through the years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marion (Cometo) Blackmer, two sons, Mark F. Blackmer and his wife, Carol of Ware, MA, John D. Blackmer and his wife, Connie of Hardwick, MA, his grandchildren, Nicole Blackmer and Jesse Blackmer, a sister, Arlene Pierce of Barre, MA and brother, John J. Blackmer of Hardwick, MA.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 4 - 7 PM at Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St, Ware, MA.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday Dec. 28, 2016, at 10 AM in St. Aloysius Church, 64 Church St, Gilbertville, MA.  . Interment with full Military Honors will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Gilbertville.
