Margaret (McDermott) Pataky passed away on Saturday September 27th at Brookhaven Assisted Living in West Brookfield.
She leaves behind her husband of fifty-nine years George, her daughter Tina Allen and her husband Todd, and her son George Pataky and his wife Sue. Margaret leaves her beloved grandchildren, Marnique Allen, her husband Tim Dutily, Tia Coderre and her husband Chris, and Liam Pataky. She also leaves three great grandchildren Jackson, Rhett, and Callan Coderre. Margaret was predeceased by her son Mark and her grandson Dylan Allen.
Margaret was born in Dublin, Ireland to Bridget (Carrick) and Thomas McDermott on September 1st, 1935. Margaret was one of twelve children with a large and loving Irish family that she spoke of often and fondly.
She came to New York with the intention of spending one year in America to see the country. Instead, she met George, the love of her life, and never left. Together they raised a family and built a wonderful life.
Margaret and George had a love of travel. They visited many states within this country and many cities in other countries including Paris, Dublin, and London. They had a special place in their hearts for Aruba and Hawaii.
Margaret enjoyed baking with her grandchildren and musicals, many Saturday nights were spent eating brownies and watching My Fair Lady. While Margaret didn’t love scary movies she could often be found watching one, hiding under a blanket, at a grandchild’s request. She had a passion for reading, which she passed on to her family. She especially loved stories involving murder and mayhem.
Margaret was a force of nature who believed in speaking her mind. Her grandchildren, even as adults talk about getting the dreaded Nana look!
Margaret was much loved and will be forever missed. Her husband George said it best when he said no matter how long she lived and how long we had together, it still wasn’t long enough.
