Hardwick---Maurice J. LaFortune, 87, passed away on Dec. 13th at his home. He was the husband of the late Mary (Trudeau) LaFortune. He leaves his son Mark LaFortune and his wife Cindy of Minot ND, his daughter Melissa LaFortune of Gilbertville, a daughter-in-law Linda LaFortune of Palmer, a brother Ernest in Florida, his sisters Rita Passeneau and Jean Morgan in New Hampshire and Doris and Alice LaFortune in Vermont, his grandchildren Erik LaFortune and his wife Kim of Sturbridge, Ryan LaFortune and his wife Christina of Sturbridge, Timothy Welsh of Gilbertville, Tiffany Welsh and her fiancé Paemon of Shrewsbury, Chelsea LaFortune and her fiancé Chris in Connecticut, and Christina , Ashley and Mark Jr. LaFortune all in North Dakota, as well as his great-grandchildren Ethan, Theodore, Ayden and Sophia. He was predeceased by his son Michael and by a brother Arthur. He was born in Winchendon son of Joseph and Yvon LaFortune and lived in Ware, moving to Gilbertville over 25 years ago. Maurice was a 42 year veteran of the Army Air Corps and US Air Force, where he was a crew and flight chief. He served as a guard at the Nuremburg Trials following World War II. As a civilian he worked in material handling and procurement for the Air Force at Westover AFB. He was a communicant of St. Aloysius Church, a member and Past Commander of the Gilbertville American Legion Post, a member of K of C Council 183 of Ware, and was very active at the Hardwick Senior Center, where he will be missed by his pals Glenn and Bob. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Aloysius Church in Gilbertville on Saturday Dec. 20th at 10am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to St. Aloysius Church, Church St. Gilbertville Ma 01031 or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital Memorial Program, 510 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-1942.
