New Braintree – Michael J. “Mickey” O’Keefe, 94, died early Monday morning, September 1, 2025, with his family with him.

He leaves his daughter and caregivers, Dorrinda O’Keefe Shea and her husband Edward of New Braintree, Michael O’Keefe from Lowell, Vermont and Cindy his former sister-in-law from Palmer, Sharon Larocque and her husband Paul of Spencer, Robert O’Keefe and his wife Lisa of Oakham, and Jon O’Keefe of Ware, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren! He also leaves his brother, Robert O’Keefe of West Brookfield and his adored cat and companion, Cooper. He was predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Faith E. (Hart) O’Keefe in 2022. He was born in Ware, son of the late Edward and Mildred (Hapgood) O’Keefe and was a life-long resident of the area.

Mickey grew up in Warren and graduated from the former Worcester Trade School where he learned auto mechanics. Shortly after his 17th birthday, his mother signed off to allow him to enlist in the United States Marines Corps at the end of World War II and the start of the Korean Conflict. Mickey served from 1948 to 1952 and returned home as a survivor of the Korean Conflict. In addition to the Purple Heart Medal, he was awarded 3 bronze stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. Proud of his country and his service, he remained supportive of all veterans’ organizations throughout his long life.

After the war, Mickey owned auto repair garages in West Brookfield and in Ware. Later, to keep busy, he worked at the USPS as a rural route mail carrier – for 20 years throughout New Braintree.

A Graveside Service for Mickey will be held privately with burial in Pine Grove Cemetery in Warren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Adams-Coney-Frew Post 244 American Legion, PO Box 252, West Brookfield, MA 01585.

Varnum Funeral Home, 43 East Main St., in West Brookfield is assisting his family with his arrangements. An online tribute page is available at varnumfuneralhome.com
