Norman K. Adams, 90
West Brookfield - Norman K. Adams, 90, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in West Brookfield.
He leaves his wife of 68 years, Phyllis I. (Reim) Adams; two sons, Mark H. Adams and his companion Eileen Claffey of West Brookfield and Kenneth R. Adams and his wife Johanna of Chesterfield; his former daughter-in-law, Lynn Adams of West Brookfield; four grandchildren, Jon, Kristopher, Amanda and Abby; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six siblings, Calysta Thurber, Marjorie Sampson, Esther Potter, Leona Chapin, Leon P. Adams and Catherine Rutherford. He was born and grew up in North Brookfield, son of the late Leon H. and Ora (Newman) Adams and later lived in West Warren before moving to West Brookfield in 1956.
Mr. Adams was a machinist foreman at Warren pumps for over 30 years before retiring in 1987.
Norman was a W.W. II veteran, serving in the Pacific theater on the minesweeper Diploma. When he and his crewmates were welcomed aboard the minesweeper, the Captain told them that for those that didn't graduate they now had their Diploma.
He was a member of the George Whitefield United Methodist Church and the Adams-Coney-Frew American legion Post 244 in West Brookfield. Norman also was an avid golfer and was a youth coach for basketball and baseball.
A Funeral Service for Norman will be held Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 12:00 PM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 10 AM to 12 PM in the funeral home.
