Brookfield - Norman B. Labonte passed away surrounded by family, at West Roxbury Veterans Medical Center, on February 13, 2023, at the age of 75. Norman was born to the late Germain and Ruth (Bates) Labonte in Putnam, CT on November 6, 1947.
He will be mourned by the love of his life and dancing partner, Cynthia Labonte of Brookfield. Norman will be deeply missed by his son, Jeffery Labonte and his partner Tamsin Ball of Marlborough; and his daughters, Darci Andrade and husband Tom of Sturbridge, Kate Carrabba and her partner Justin Richardson of Marlborough, and Chrissy Carrabba and her partner Chris Grosse of Shrewsbury. Norman is survived by his grandchildren, Ashley Labonte, Eloise Andrade, and William Andrade and by his sisters Janice Keech and her husband Jim, Carol Wright, and Linda Hollingworth. He was predeceased by his brother Robert and sister Joan. Norman was also the favorite uncle of his many beloved nieces and nephews, and a favorite in Cyn's family. He was a kind, calming presence to all who were lucky enough to know him.
Norman was a very proud member of the United States Marine Corps. He served on the front lines in Vietnam at the peak of the war and he earned many medals, including a Purple Heart. He was the most caring, kind and encouraging man, known to lend a hand to all, from his family and friends to random strangers on the street. He was a longtime friend of Bill W, helping and supporting countless others through their most difficult times. Norman could most often be found drinking coffee in his chair, doing manual labor outside, fixing (or breaking) things, or on the boat at Mashapaug Lake. Always the first person on the dance floor, he was happy to be anyone's partner but especially loved to dance with Cyn, Linda, Krista, June, and his girls. He also loved music and when he didn't hear it, he would make his own on his "trumpet".
A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held in Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., in West Brookfield on February 24 at 5:30pm with calling hours prior from 4-5:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate any level of donation to help cover his memorial costs. Donations may made be here:
