Ware – Normand V. Carrigan, 100, died on Friday evening November 1, 2024, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
He leaves his step-children, Judy Ann Cerrone and her husband David of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and John Smigiel and his wife Sylvia of Ware, and his step-grandson Chris Cerrone of Dripping Springs, Texas. He also leaves his sons Paul Carrigan of Boston, Peter Carrigan of Delray, Florida as well as his grandson Connor and family of Charleston, SC. He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Jean (Robitaille Smigiel) Carrigan in December 2022, as well as his brothers Sam and Raymond, and sister Jeannette Baril.
Normand held many occupations throughout his long life. He was a Highway Right of Way Agent for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Assistant to Governor’s Appointment Secretary in Western Massachusetts, Court Officer for Superior Court, Springfield, owner of Carrigan’s Hardware in Chicopee, and many years at General Electric.
Mr. Carrigan was a proud United States Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the Philippines. He remained active in Veterans’ Associations including the Legion Post in Chicopee. He also belonged to the Ware Golden Age Club and was a member of All Saint’s Church in Ware. He was an avid sports fan and loved to cheer on the Patriots and the Red Sox.
A Funeral Mass for Normand will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 11AM in All Saint’s Church, 17 North St., in Ware. A calling hour will be held on the same day, from 9:30 to 10:30AM in Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., in Ware prior to the mass. Burial will be in New Saint William Cemetery.
