Peter M. Bard

April 16, 1933 — October 21, 2022

Brookfield - Peter M. Bard, 89, passed away peacefully at Beaumont Nursing Home/Hospice Center on October 21, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with numerous health issues.

Peter was born in Douglas and moved to Worcester as a young boy.  He moved to Brookfield with his wife Anne in 1968 to raise their family in the country.

He leaves his four children, Suzanne Ouellet and her husband Joseph of Wales, Denise Senosk of Brookfield, Michelle Dahart and her husband Russell of N. Brookfield, Peter F. Bard of Brookfield; his step-daughter, Susan DuVerger and her husband Todd of W. Boylston and his second wife, Shirley (Davis) of Gardner; granddaughters, Erin Dahart and her partner Nick Roberts of Palmer, Dianna Hoyt and her husband David of Spencer, Ashley Carroll and her husband Derek of W. Brookfield. He also leaves his grandson, the "Apple of his Eye," John A. Senosk of Brookfield, and great-grandchildren, Kylie, Lucien, Landon, Logan, Casey, Sofia and Julia.  He was predeceased by his first wife of 37 years, Anne R. (Costa) Bard, his 3 brothers, Henry, John and Noe, 3 sisters, Beverly, Theresa, Nanette, his nephew, Arthur "Roscoe," his nieces, Beverly and Faye and his loving mother, Marie (Cusson) Simmons.

Mr. Bard served in the United States Navy on the USS Missouri during the Korean War.

Peter worked for 20 years for Wyman-Gordon Company in Worcester as a Lubricator/Maintenance team member before retiring in 1994.

He was a member of the Brookfield Recreation Committee, the Tantasqua Music Association, Greendale Retired Men's Club, US Steelworkers Union #2936, the Adams-Coney-Frew American Legion Post 244, St. Mary's Church, and most recently, the Froshin Club in Shrewsbury where he enjoyed ballroom dancing and singing with the bands.

Pete was a fun loving, family oriented, sensitive on the inside, gruff on the outside kind of man. A Hallmark card on Father's Day needed to be accompanied by a few tissues as his eyes would be "watering."  Pete was the first one to lend a hand to a family member, friend or stranger!  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him! Just a great guy with a big voice and a bigger heart!!

The family would like to thank the entire staff at UMASS Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Floor 3West, for all of their care, compassion, empathy and overall goodwill shown to our Dad during his extended stay. A special thank you to Wadila Pereira for her special bond with him. Bless you all.

A Graveside Service for Peter will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 11:00am in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery in Spencer.  Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St. in West Brookfield.
