Peter J. Wrobel, Jr., 84
West Brookfield - Peter J. Wrobel, Jr., 84, of Cottage St., died Tuesday, November 11, 2014.
He leaves two sons, Retired Navy Master Chief Thomas J. Wrobel of Lisbon Falls, ME and Timothy J. Wrobel of Warren; two daughters, Susan F. Bowles of Gilbertville and Sandra J. Lawton of Rutland; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Phyllis F. (Green) Wrobel and a brother, Robert Wrobel. He was born in Ware son of the late Peter J. and Mary (Blyskal) Wrobel and grew up in West Warren and has lived in West Brookfield since 1957.
Peter worked as a truck driver for the former Aquatic Plastic Company in West Brookfield for 10 years and then worked 33 years as a heating engineer for Sherman Oil Company in West Brookfield before retiring.
He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
Peter was active in his community and served 33 years on the West Brookfield Fire Department and 13 years as Chief. He also was one of the first EMT's in West Brookfield and served as treasurer of the West Brookfield Rescue Squad for 20 years. He was a member of the Massachusetts Call Volunteer Firefighters, the Massachusetts Fire Chiefs, the New England Fire Chiefs and the International Fire Chiefs and was one of the organizers for the Worcester area Fire Chiefs.
Peter was a member of the Wickaboag Sportsman's Club and treasurer for 20 years. He also won many ribbons and trophies for the farm obstacle courses he completed in at all the fairs around New England with his horses.
A Funeral Service for Peter will be held on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield. Calling hours will be held Thursday November 13, 2014 from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
