Rebecca Gould Mimeault, 74, of Sturbridge, MA, passed away at home surrounded by family on May 26, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her strength, grace, and unwavering love for others left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know her.
Born to Douglas and Mildred (Davis) Gould of Hudson, MA, Rebecca was raised in a loving and close-knit family, which shaped her deep sense of compassion and faith. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1969 and attended Emmanuel College in Boston, where she earned a degree in Business Administration. She was the beloved wife of Peter Mimeault and the devoted mother of Amy Sampson and her husband, Michael of Woodstock, CT. She was predeceased by her son, Brent Mimeault. Rebecca is also survived by her loving daughter-in-law, Maggie Brown Mimeault, and her beloved grandchildren, Ellary and Noah Sampson of Woodstock, CT, and Darwin Brown-Waters of Amherst, NH.
Rebecca was one of six siblings and leaves behind Ronald and Judy Gould of Wilmington, MA; Roland and Sarah Gould of Shrewsbury, MA; Michael and Joan Gould of Canton, CT; William and Cindy Gould of Hudson, MA; and Brenda and David Thatcher of Colebrook, NH. She deeply loved her many nieces and nephews, Jeff, Scott, Bryan, Glenn, Jessica, Zachary, Joshua, Jonathan, Ashlee, Samantha, Mitchell, including her late nephew, Jason Gould.
Rebecca dedicated over three decades of her professional life to Digital Equipment Corporation, continuing as Facilities Manager at Intel Corporation and Digital Credit Union. In retirement, she gave generously of her time and talents to the community, volunteering with the Sturbridge Council on Aging and playing an instrumental role in the planning and expansion of the historic Sturbridge Senior Center as part of its Building Committee.
Throughout her life, Rebecca valued the friendships she made, from childhood through her final days. She was a loyal friend, a loving family member, and a woman of deep faith. Her unwavering positivity and compassion remained steadfast, even as she faced her illness with remarkable courage and grace. In her final days, she continued to extend her love and concern for others, offering comfort and peace even as she approached the end of her journey.
A woman of deep and enduring faith, Rebecca was one of the founding members of Grace Baptist Church in Shrewsbury. Her faith guided her throughout her life, both in joyful times and through trials. She later became a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church, where her spiritual community continued to grow. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Faith Baptist Church at 515 Dennison Drive, Southbridge, MA 01550.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the UMASS Medical Oncology Group and the incredible team at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Your tireless care and compassion gave Rebecca comfort and precious time, for which we are deeply grateful.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 6th, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Varnum Funeral Home, 43 East Main Street, in West Brookfield. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 7th, at 10 a.m. in the First Congregational Church of North Brookfield, 144 North Main St., in North Brookfield. Everyone should meet directly at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery after the service.
To know Rebecca was to love her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of kindness, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
