Charlton, MA – Rita L. Pont, 86, of Charlton (formerly of Brookfield), passed away at The Overlook in Charlton on Thursday, January 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She leaves her son, Todd Bray and his wife, Elise, of Brookfield; her daughter, Tracy Machikas and her husband, Dean, of Maryland; and her son, Thomas Bray and his wife, Sandra, of Florida. She also leaves her five grandchildren, Daniel, Haley, Ashley, Abigail, and Alyssa. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years and the love of her life, Edward Pont. She was born in Bristol, Connecticut, daughter of the late Harold and Gladys (Tomlinson) Savage.
Rita was a lover of animals. She enjoyed the time she spent volunteering for the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, able to play with the puppies and help care for them as needed. Many years later, and in a similar way, Rita would come to volunteer her time to The Cat Connection – enjoying their company and making many new feline friends. She loved the outdoors and could always be found outside, always on the move. Whether visiting the beach in Maine, or going on day trips with her family, she simply loved to get up, get out, and embrace the world. She was a lover of music as well; especially that of Tom Jones and Neil Diamond. She looked forward to the times of rest and relaxation, when she could enjoy a good glass of wine – her beloved “Jesus Juice.” Although, the time she was able to spend with her grandkids was what she loved and cherished most of all.
A Celebration of Life for Rita will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or online at
