Robert C. Griffin

June 29, 1959 — May 6, 2024

Gilbertville - Robert "Choppy" Griffin, 64, of Gilbertville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 6, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.

He leaves behind his sister, Tammy R. Medulan and her husband Michael of Roanoke, TX; his sister Ann M. Allen and her husband Michael of Barre; his sister, Elizabeth A. Selanis and her husband Christopher of Athol; his brother-in-law Kevin Pratt and his wife Sandy of West Brookfield; his Aunt Rita Pzocha of Belchertown and her daughter Nancy; as well as his nieces, Karson, Kelsey, Alexandra, Delaney, and Jenny Lee; his nephews, Joey, Craig, Kristopher, and Zachary; his great-niece, Maeve, and great-nephew Ian. The family also wishes to acknowledge his dear friends and extended family, of which there were many. They know that for most of you, it feels as though you've lost a brother too.  He was predeceased by the love of his life, Marilyn G. (Pratt) Griffin; and by his niece, Krystal.  He was born in Ware, son of the late Norman P. and Janet L. (Parker) Griffin.

Upon graduating from high school, Robert worked various jobs, until settling as a prison guard for Shirley and Gardner Corrections. After retirement from the MDoC, he worked as a security guard at Baystate Wing Hospital and Mary Lane Hospital, where he made countless more friends.

Robert was a loving and devoted husband, a kind and caring brother and uncle, and an incredible friend to many. He was the life of the party, and the first person to call when you needed a friend to lean on. He could joke with the best of them, but also be the words of advice you need in the most trying of times. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but especially loved golfing, and was a fan of all Boston sports. He also enjoyed the time he spent with his friends. Whether they were playing a friendly game of poker, playing pool, or even just hanging out at the bar, Robert made sure to make the most of his memories with them.  However, what he loved most of all was the time he was able to spend at home, and around town, with his beloved family and friends.

To have known Choppy was to know that you had a friend for life.

A celebration of life for Robert will be held at a later date, at which time his family plans to ask for donations toward both the celebration of life and a golf scholarship in his name.

Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., in West Brookfield is assisting his family with arrangements.
